A major in Legal Studies will equip you with knowledge and skills regarding legal concepts, ideas and institutions in Australia and internationally. You will learn key legal skills including the interpretation of legislation and case law, and the application of law to solve legal problems. You will develop a working understanding of the substance and process of law in social, government, environmental, commercial and international contexts. You will also develop skills in critically analysing relationships between law and justice, which can be applied to a range of other study areas. As a graduate, a major in Legal Studies will empower you to apply a legal perspective in a wide range of professional contexts.

The Legal Studies major includes six core subjects to provide you with foundational legal skills and to introduce you to law in a range of contexts. You will then complete two electives that allow you to specialise in areas such as commercial law, social justice, environmental law and law and technologies. The Legal Studies major is not available to students enrolled in a double degree with the Bachelor of Laws.
