Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

Determine and analyse the components of selected criminal offences;
2.
Determine and analyse the components of selected defences;
3.
Critically engage with the rules relating to extending liability (complicity and conspiracy);
4.
Evaluate the impact of procedural factors on the operation of rules governing offence definitions, defence definitions and the extension of liability;
5.
Identify and apply theoretical and technical knowledge to evaluate the adequacy of existing rules with respect to criminal offences, defences, and extending liability in terms of achieving broader social policy objectives;
6.
Identify and apply criteria for evaluating the adequacy of criminal law reform proposals.
