Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Identify and explain the elements of a range of torts, including negligence, and their defences;
2.
Analyse real-world and hypothetical scenarios to identify legal issues and apply legal reasoning to develop and communicate convincing responses to those scenarios;
3.
Evaluate a range of goals that tort law might seek to achieve and the effectiveness of tort law in achieving those goals; and
4.
Evaluate alternatives to the common law of torts, including statutory compensation schemes, and assess their relative merits in achieving the goals identified in SLO 3.
