Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Carry out core wet chemistry lab skills including: sample preparation; handling liquids, solids, solutions; weighing; ensuring quantitative transfer; waste segregation and exercising safe practices and good note taking.
2.
Make quantitative analytical measurements using titrations and estimate the uncertainty of the measurements.
3.
Prepare a set of calibration standards and calibrate and use a range of modern analytical instruments to quantify the composition of a laboratory sample and estimate the uncertainty of the measurements.
4.
Undertake analysis of data collected in the laboratory including statistical analysis, calculations and graphing of data.
5.
Demonstrate competency in report writing techniques
