Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Describe the centrality of the infant, child or adolescent within the context of the family unit;
2.
Discuss family centred practice and how this is used to plan and manage care in the paediatric setting;
3.
Describe the pathophysiology, pharmacology and age-related changes in a range of paediatric conditions in acute care and community settings;
4.
Apply the principles of nursing assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in collaboration with the infant, child, adolescent, their families and the multidisciplinary team;
5.
Examine the range of support systems that are available to support the family unit to function in a way that supports the optimal wellbeing of the family members;
6.
Discuss the psychosocial and spiritual care of infants, children, adolescent that are respectful of the individual family's values, belief and ways of doing things;
7.
Examine legal, ethical and cultural issues that affect paediatric patients and their families;
8.
Use and critique current evidence and research to support clinical decisions.
