This subject will provide an overview of the key ethical and legal issues related to health, health services and health policy. Exploring legal and ethical challenges and the impact these have within a healthcare context provides students with a reference point to examine these challenges within their own workplace.

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

Identify the different ethical frameworks applicable to healthcare.

Describe major legal health principles including consent, competence and substitute decision making.
3.
Describe the links between ethics and the law in the analysis of complex issues.
4.
Apply critical analytical skills for examining ethical and legal implications of policies and practice in health and health management.
