The applied focus of the research project enables students to explore how their sociological knowledge and research have practical applications, and provides possibilities for improving outcomes for different groups of people.
The capstone subject and the applied research project will enable students to develop and then integrate recognised professional skills into their project. These include (as defined by The Australian Sociological Association): understanding social and cultural issues; high quality communication skills; research and detailed observation; and the ability to work independently.
The aim of this capstone subject is to apply theoretical and methodological skills so as to produce a report that gives emphasis to core social research imperatives, such as informing decision-making, advancing our understanding of contemporary Australian society, and/or developing a sense of our place in the world.
