A study of selected literary works of the Elizabethan-Jacobean period with special reference to the relationships between the works, contemporary English society and its concerns.

Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

Demonstrate an informed understanding of the connections between Renaissance texts and society, including their historical and contemporary roles and their part in complex and developing cultural formations
2.
Express clearly in written and oral form views on issues raised by the subject
3.
Critically evaluate the views and approaches of others (e.g., scholars, fellow students) on and to issues raised by the subject
4.
Demonstrate the ability to undertake research using primary texts and secondary sources

Take home exercise (1500 words)
Class presentation - 20  minutes
Research essay (2500 words)
