Handbook

This subject develops students’ knowledge about theories of child development and introduces a research basis for further exploration, analysis and application. Concepts and theories of child development reference learning and cognition, prenatal development, perception, and physical and motor development from birth to 8 years; including issues of early intervention, individual differences, diversity and inclusion. Students will consider the professional applications of child development theory in community and educational contexts. Implications for professional teacher development and practice will be explored, drawing on understanding of theories of child development and personal experiences within the early childhood education and care sector.
