On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Identify the range in genres and quality of children’s literature available, in traditional, contemporary and popular culture forms, across print-based and other media modes.
2.
Demonstrate an understanding of the layers of meaning that a text offers its young readers and articulate the nature of transaction between reader and text across different forms and media of children’s literature
3.
Understand the social and cultural influences in children’s literature and how these powerful influences impact teachers and children.
4.
Develop literature based provisions for a play based environment which expresses creativity and engagement of children with diverse texts in ways that nurture children’s literacy and appreciation of literature.
5.
Plan literature experiences suitable for prior-to-school settings. This demonstrates an appreciation and value of children’s literature, promote play and supports literacy development.
