The subject investigates the modern data management systems based on the relational data model. The goal of the subject is to learn the fundamental concepts in the data base design, the relational data model, database programming, enforcing the concepts of data security, integrity, and availability in database systems, and managing concurrent access data. The subject covers the following topics: database design based on conceptual modeling, transformation of conceptual schemas into relational schemas (logical design) and proving correctness of relational database design (normalization), database programming with  Structured Query Language (SQL) discretionary access control, user management, enforcing data security and integrity, and
concurrency control in database systems. The subject also explains the important ethical issues associated with responsible disclosure, responsibility, liability, security weaknesses, and privacy in data management systems.
