Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

Summarise and synthesise ideas and information from spoken texts for non-specialist audiences.
2.
Use appropriate register to participate in discussions, debates and interviews regarding Chinese culture, history and cross-cultural communications
3.
Demonstrate an insight into the values and attitudes of people from the Chinese culture and reflect on and compare cultural values
4.
Understand Chinese language as a system and compare English and Chinese at lexical, grammatical and discursive levels through translation practice.
5.
Select and make full use of reference materials to write evaluative essay of 600 characters within the topics covered in the class.
6.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of Chinese studies in the world.
