Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Discuss the physiological mechanisms underpinning the response of the respiratory, metabolic and cardiovascular systems to different exercise stimuli (type, duration, intensity), fitness testing and training;
2.
Explain physiological adaptations associated with acute and chronic exposure to physical exercise under normal conditions, in different environments, relative to individual characteristics, and with external influences (e.g. ergogenic aids or technologies);
3.
Explain the role of sedentary behaviour and physical activity on the aetiology, prevention and management of chronic conditions, mental health, and disability;
4.
Apply knowledge obtained through current and relevant peer-reviewed literature using appropriate communication methodologies;
5.
Examine how acute exercise impacts physiology by interpreting data obtained in laboratories.
