This subject broadly explores the complex topic of climate change and its impacts on environmental and human health. Within the subject, we will examine the physical processes that influence Earth’s climate and energy balance and the impact of anthropogenic greenhouse gases, as well as the diverse and evolving natural and anthropogenic climate scenarios that impact lives, communities and globally connected economies. The evidence of the evolving impact of climate change and other natural hazards within Earth’s systems will be investigated. We examine the impacts/threats and challenges of climate change and other natural hazards to human systems. This includes changes to the frequency and intensity of natural hazards such as bushfires, floods storms and heat waves and the impacts of these changes on human systems including public health, infrastructure and food production.. The human behaviours that have driven climate change will be explored, including energy production, agriculture, resources use and population. We will also examine how society needs to respond to climate change, and evaluate how we can manage and adapt to future climate conditions.
