This subject considers the social work profession, social services, and social policies within an international and global context. The nature and historical evolution of professional social work and characteristics of social work in different world regions, particularly in Asia/Pacific, is discussed. Variation in national resources and development and the impact of poverty and inequality are considered. The role of major international organisations and international agreements in promoting social welfare is analysed. Transnational social issues, such as natural disaster and human trafficking, are explored through case studies. The impact of international politics and current affairs on social work is assessed.
