Learning outcomes
On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:

Identify complex organic compounds using spectroscopic chemical techniques
2.
Determine and explain the stereochemical outcome of stereoselective and stereospecific chemical reactions
3.
Employ molecular modelling software to predict the reactivity and structure of organic molecules
4.
Recognise a range of important organic chemical reactions and predict their mechanisms
5.
Plan a synthesis of an organic molecule by applying the principles of retrosynthetic analysis and examining the chemical literature
6.
Practice the synthesis, purification and analysis of organic compounds in the laboratory
