The Arts in Education is designed to develop pre-service teachers’ appreciation and understanding of the role of authentic Arts education in the primary classroom. It will develop pre-service teachers’ understanding of the Arts, as a body of knowledge and as a way of knowing, being and expressing. It will equip them with the pedagogical understanding to devise engaging and meaningful Arts learning experiences for their students by developing pre-service teachers’ knowledge, skills and understanding in planning, implementing and evaluating quality and authentic arts education.  EDMP916 will also provide students with the opportunity and ability to develop their own understanding of, and proficiency in, each artform – Dance, Drama, Music, Visual Arts - as well as understanding how young people develop and engage in creative practice.  Pre-service teachers will further demonstrate skills in devising sequenced and rigorous teaching and learning experiences that teach for, with and about creativity to develop young people’s expressive capacity and aesthetic understanding. Students will also develop a strong understanding of the NESA Creative Arts syllabus.
