This subject will introduce you to the educational contexts which will both influence and direct your role and work in the teaching profession. Education operates within a demanding framework and it is important to learn about and understand the diverse and complex contexts that impact on teaching and learning. Lectures will focus on the goals of education in Australia, the changing nature of education and its impact, how teacher expertise develops and why teachers do what they do. You will examine the nature of learning and how using research can improve your teaching practice. Quality teaching is at the heart of quality learning and through this subject you will begin to understand why quality teaching is so important and what it looks like in practice. The contemporary learning context will be examined to understand how student learning can be enhanced through the use of ICT. EDPS200 will also introduce you to the governing educational syllabi, documents and policies.
