Handbook

This subject focuses on the family and community contexts of childhood. Theoretical approaches to the study of families are explored, along with issues for children related to the structural and cultural diversity of families in Australia. Contexts of childhood, family conditions, neighbourhood, environmental contexts and social policies are examined with emphasis on familial isolation, Indigenous families and community connections, extended families, poverty and homelessness.  Students enriched understanding of the always topical issues of the well-being of children, families and communities are designed to support them in their work with children and families, and provide greater insight into societal issues concerning children and families.
