On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Practice skills in building rapport and empathy with people from diverse backgrounds.
2.
Communicate effectively through culturally respectful, clear dialogue in a social work practice context.
3.
Critically assess one's personal and professional cultural identities and the influence these have in social work practice;
4.
Analyse the organisational and social factors influencing the capacity for practice to be culturally sensitive and safe;
5.
Assess the language barriers that may impact negatively on client outcomes and access appropriate support processes and/or services;
6.
Demonstrate capacity to use an interpreter to communicate across language groups;
7.
Assess the cultural context and experiences of clients as part of an overall assessment to understand the ways these are influencing current wellbeing and/or difficulties.
