Learning outcomes

On successful completion of this subject, students will be able to:
1.
Critically analyse historical and contemporary constructions of childhood, children's and young people's wellbeing and protection and childhood development and their impact on social work practice.
2.
Synthesise the key evidence about effectiveness of different theories, frameworks and models of intervention to work with children, young people and families in social work practice.
3.
Critically review child protection, youth justice and family support systems across Australia giving specific attention to contemporary policy issues.
4.
Assess how risk and protective factors impact on the development of children and young people and consider how to apply this knowledge in working with individuals and families.
5.
Find, read and apply key principles in working with children, young people and families from diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
6.
Demonstrate skills in engaging diverse groups of people (children, young people, parents, carers and other professionals) to enhance outcomes for children, young people and families.
